Fergus McCaffrey, in collaboration with Mnuchin Gallery, is proud to announce de Kooning / Shiraga, on view from February 15 through April 2, 2022 at Mnuchin Gallery (45 East 78th Street, New York).
The exhibition marks the first time these two masters of postwar abstraction will be shown side-by-side. Eight works by Willem de Kooning dating from 1975–1983, will be presented alongside eleven canvases by Kazuo Shiraga, from 1973–1997, illustrating the ways in which each artist organically arrived at some of the same aesthetic considerations and conceptual influences, and the ways in which their practices remain distinctly their own. On the occasion of the exhibition, a fully illustrated catalogue authored by art historian Pepe Karmel has been made available.
